Stevenson, Campbell Key Chargers’ Blowout Wins at Black Hawk

The Carl Sandburg College softball team stayed hot with a pair of blowout wins at Black Hawk on Monday, setting up a showdown this afternoon at Illinois Valley with first place in the Arrowhead Conference up for grabs.

The Chargers (24-20, 11-1) stomped the Braves 13-3 and 14-4 and will face league leader Illinois Valley (8-0) this afternoon.

Key Moment
The Chargers already led 5-2 in the fourth before they added six runs with two away in the inning. Grace Wilmington (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) and Lizzie Malcolm (Moline, Ill./Alleman) each delivered RBI singles. Haley Stevenson (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg), Erin Flairty (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) and Katie Droste (Biggsville, Ill./West Central) each pushed across a run with back-to-back-to-back bases-loaded walks before Emily Bloomer (Burlington, Iowa/Burlington) delivered an RBI hit to left.

Sandburg Standout
Stevenson reached base four times in four plate appearances out of the No. 9 spot in the order, going 2 for 2 (both singles) with a pair of walks, two runs and two RBIs.

Key Moment
Sandburg plated three runs just four batters into the game. Flairty led off the contest with a single, stole second and scored on Droste’s base hit to right. Two batters later, Lauryn Campbell (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) homered to left for a 3-0 Chargers lead.

Sandburg Standout
Campbell had a four-hit game that included three extra-base hits. The freshman first baseman singled in the second and added doubles in the fourth and fifth as she finished 4 for 4 with three runs scored and four RBIs.
